People Love Avocados, and They Love Avocados in Space!

hqdefaultIf you missed this years’ Super Bowl, then you missed one of the best avocado commercials ever.

Avocados From Mexico produced a commercial set in an alien museum that displays “the bounty of Earth.” Yes, the aliens are looking at our treasures and questionable items like a Rubik’s Cube (described as “this simple puzzle was actually considered unsolvable by the humans,” to which an alien child responds “Did they not have brains?”).

The museum also featured a torture device, or our airplane seats, in which we were strapped down for hours at a time. Other priceless artifacts include The Dress, which the guide describes as “the white and gold dress that cause a civil war” (the dress looks black and blue in the display case), our language (emoji) and Scott Baio.

Then the most amazing of all … avocados from Mexico, because they are always in season.

You can watch the commercial here:

This commercial seemed to get quite a lot of buzz, and we’re not the only ones who loved it.

According to the Washington Post, “Avocados from Mexico’s first-ever Super Bowl ad last year — “First Draft Ever,” about countries picking various flora and fauna for their “teams” — was a surprise hit. And this commercial has the same ingredients for success: an absurd premise, a celebrity cameo and some snappy one-liners.”

MarketingLand said #AvosInSpace took the prize for most pre-game mentions on Twitter prior to the commercial’s release. In fact, the avocado commercial has about 50% more mentions than the runner-up.

The commercial was also named one of the best Super Bowl commercials this year:

Co.Create named it one of its top 5 commercials, as did the Chicago Tribune who rated it an A- and saying “the jokes are funny, and ending on the product (and the guacamole you make from it) does make you want to reach for a chip.”

It’s no surprise we love avocados, but we really loved this commercial. It was entertaining and highlighted just how awesome avocados from Mexico are!
