Around here at Mexicado we just love to make our avocados into guacamole. And what goes better with homemade guacamole than some homemade salsa?
While we love salsa, the hardest part is removing the seeds so that your diced tomato comes out just right. Here is guide on how to cut a tomato perfectly for salsa.
Deseeding and Dicing
Start by cutting the tomato in half from side to side. This helps to keep all the seed compartments inside the tomato.
Now, you can do one of two things to deseed your fruit. You can gently squeeze the tomato to pop out the seeds. However, this one takes a bit of caution as you can squeeze too hard, damaging the outside that you want to dice. The second option would be to use a spoon, your finger or some other small tool and gently scrape out the seeds. This method takes more time, but will preserve the tomato’s shape and outer flesh. Now that your tomato is deseeded, you can dice it. Using a sharp knife, cut the remaining parts of your tomato into small squares.
Another method of deseeding and dicing starts with cutting a thin slice off the bottom of a whole tomato. Turn it over and place it on the flat part. Now, starting from the top, use a sharp knife and slice downward in a curved shape, going along the outside of the tomato. You are basically cutting the outside flesh away from the inner seeds. Continue doing this all around the tomato until you are left with outside pieces, and an inner seedy ball. Discard the seeds and dice the slices to the size you want.
