Holiday Entertaining Ideas

ID-100300747It’s that time of year for friends and family and parties! Parties don’t have to be a one-type fits all kind of thing. There are many different types of parties for this festive time of year. Here are some entertaining ideas that you may want to try.

Types of Parties

Cocktail party. Want to throw a semi-formal party for adults? Consider an early evening event like a cocktail party. Food can also be kept light at a cocktail party, focusing on finger foods and of course, cocktails.

Sit-down dinner. Even fancier than a cocktail party, a sit-down dinner is intimate and structured. It typically consists of a smaller group of people, formal clothing and a multi-course meal with drinks and desserts.

Open house. An open house party is open to more guests, with guests coming and going whenever they want. You can lay out a buffet spread and make the drinks self-serve.

Potluck dinner. This is a great way to get everyone involved and is great for those on a budget. Assign parts of the meal to guests, or have them sign up for whatever they would like to bring.

Festive Activities

Outdoor activities. Christmas time is great for outdoor activities like ice skating, snowman building, sledding even snowball fights.

Gift exchange. Before your party have everyone pull means for a Secret Santa gift exchange. If you do not have time to exchange names, you can have everybody bring a wrapped gift to be given out. You could have a certain theme or a price limit for your gift. Draw numbers or play games to determine who gets which wrapped present.

Christmas lights tour. If your neighborhood is especially festive, take your guests outside for a Christmas lights and decorations tour. You may even want to turn it into a scavenger hunt or bingo game by making your guests look for certain things such as a Santa statue, a house with blue lights, Christmas tree in the window, reindeer, Nativity scene, etc.

Christmas caroling. If your friends are outgoing and not afraid to have some fun, give Christmas caroling to try. You could have fun with this or make it more traditional. Head back to your house after four some food and hot chocolate.
